  • Stereoscopic issue with PhoenixFDocean

Why is there a clipping issue when using the stereoscopic camera with PhoenixFDocean?

    Steps:
1 open "submarine" from Phoenix samples.
2 create camera (max or Vray does not matter) where the perspective is.
3 simulate first frame - render looks ok
4 create Vray stereoscopic helper (specify focus: 80m, focus method: rotation, shift both,
5 render and you loose the nearst part of the sea.
6 set the focus distance to 1 and you get a clipping also on the right side of the frame

Maybe this has nothing to do with PhoenixFD? I just noticed it in a phoenixFD setup.

hi, the ocean is build in prerender pass, using the camera settings to construct a mesh that represents the visible in the viewport part of the ocean surface.
unfortunately this may produce the problem you described, the stereoscopic rendering changes the view and the mesh is no longer occupying the entire visible space. we are thinking how to fix this, but for now all the ideas lead to significant performance loss

      bugger

Well, is it possible to use the ocean texture with regular geometry?

yes, use the vray displacement mod, it is compatible with it
just don't forget to expand the default limitation from 0..1 to -100..+100
