I just wish they were 'pass-thru' like the parallel port dongles, so you could daisy chain several of them together.
Actually it seems interesting because this seems to be a hybrid of dongle and license server. The dongle unlocks the license server. What is also interesting is that you can run a license from your house off your license server from work via HTTP, without having to remove the dongle.

      Hello people. Just a question.

we provide online authorization system for immediate use. provided your office has internet access
What could happen if the Internet connection get interrupted (or something similar) during a rendering?

      About dongles:
Personally i don't like so much dongles. I changed my old autocad ones 2 times in the past.

hmmm. just occured to me. this weekend is xmas. whee. nice xmas gift

the time has nothing to do with this, We are waiting for a long time to have a new version and this is not the question.
what i mean is that when we all 1st ordered vray we were told that it was free upgrades up (and including) 1.5 but alots happened since then. we have gotten lots of stuff that were never promised for vray and the things that were promised for 1.5 we have gotten a loooong time ago

What could happen if the Internet connection get interrupted (or something similar) during a rendering?
when the internet connection is broken your liscence is disconnected. the internet connection however is not the permenant liscence tool. the dongle is. the internet connection thing is there for when you wish to start using the product before you get your liscence.

Your rendering will be finished successfully. A license is requested only at the start of the rendering.

We understand that we have to fight with the many negative experiences people have had in the past with dongles, but we strongly believe that things have changed since then and there will be very few problems.

          Best regards,

portability is not an issue with me as I believe in US & Canada it is law to have option to have the software on work and home machine at the same time. As long as it is used by same person not at once.
as far as i know when you buy a product you are agreeing to the copyright laid down by the product regardless of what country you are in. i could easily be wrong though. max never allowed you to install it at home and work. you got one authorisation of it.

The only possitive thing I can see is the fact that you can move your license around.

But having to pay an extra 30 bucks is a bad idea in my oppininon, after all we already bought the product once. (I know people will say that I got more features then what I original payed for, but they should have introduced the dongle with a major upgrade that you had to pay for, else people will sit back with a negative experience)

It's smart that you can start using vray as soon as you bought it by connecting to chaos' server or if your dongle malfunction, but what will happen if the server breaksdown, loss of connection, harddrive fry, what ever that could go wrong, then there would be a lot of people who won't be able to work at all, what plans is there to prevent this from happening?

                      /Thomas

well. dongle shipment shouldnt take too long in most cases. the internet server is only to allow you a temperary access. hopefully they will have a dedicated as well as a backup server to help out

certainly not. im not saying anything. see this is why vray always took hardware into account with liscence to stop people from putting liscences everywhere

Dynedain - are you an expert in the case of Canadian software laws?

I don't want to get into a big debate about laws but I take offence to any inference of impropriety.

                                Regards Peter
