  • Max 7.5 breaking textures

Has anyone else run into issues with Max 7.5 breaking textures in Max 7 files? About 80% of the time when I render old files, the textures all end up mapped like they were done with a mapscalar set to have the texture repeat per face. It's really bizarre. If I change the camera slightly they may fix themselves, but then they're back to broken again the next time I hit "render."

The only reliable way I have found to get them back (for one render) is to go to the material properties of each texture, check "Use Real-World Scale", change one of the Size parameters, uncheck "Use Real-World Scale", and change the tiling back (since it got changed when I changed the Size parameter.

I have had this happen now with multiple files, and I am starting to go crazy. Naturally, I have followed Max's request and resaved the "obsolete" files.

I have yet not verified whether I get these errors using the scanline renderer. I was about to write an apology for asking a Max question in the VRay forums, but in the process of typing this up I am now wondering if it might be a VRay issue. I spent several hours searching for anyone else out on the internet who has had this problem, but I couldn't find it documented anywhere.

Thanks in advance for any help with this issue.

Do you have any Cebas plug-in's ?

This sounds very very like the Cebas plug-in conflict I was having. If you don't have any cebas plug-in's at all then you have another problem but if you do then you probably have the old .dlu problem. You need to update that, check out this post from Beau over at the Autodesk 3ds forum, in the DCP plug-i, Final Render section. I'd send you a link but it seems to be breaking - If you can't get there e-mail me and I can send you over the patch.

I was having the a very similar problem and so far this has worked for me. I had to hunt for the solution and like you thought I would throw my machine out the window, as it is freakly random, have you had any problems with objects generate mapping co-ordinates check box becoming locked ? or meshed smooth properties of objects changing ?

These are also problems created by this bug.

      Good Luck !!

        Adam-

        You have made my day.

The link you posted didn't work for me, but I found what I needed by searching through the discreet forums - and I found you post over there while I was at it. It helped to know that I was searching for an issue with cebas.dlu.

I found the patch to fix it here: http://support.discreet.com/webboard...ead?215191,234

Alternatively, if you are reading this because you are in a similar predicament, you can download the patch directly from Turbosquid: http://files.turbosquid.com/Products...max7.5_fix.zip (Hopefully they will keep that link active for a while)

        I sure love these forums.
