the mobo only has 4 mem slots. That means I either had to go 4 gig or 8 gig... who the hell can afford 8 gigs of memory...not me...

you dont need it. it was a map max created by baking. I purposely left out textures in the benchmark.

So.... Here we are again.... Dual xeons vs. AMD or X2.

Which is most cost effective? It seems AMD X2 costs 2x?
                    Win64 must make a difference?

I am hoping somebody is bored enough at work today to graph these resutls. I would also like to see a chart of $ per time.

                    Also - nobody has a P4 Extreme (840)?

It looks like the Pentium 840 extreme edition and the AMD x2 4800 are pretty comparable in price and performance.

For Radiosity, yeah. Discreet throws in a bunch of Intel-optimizations in Max.

Wish they'd do it for AMD as well

According to that chart the 4200 & 4400 are the same. I was considering the 4400 but according to those numbers its not worth the extra cost. Thanks for posting that.

I really like the vray numbers more then the radiosity figures. Thats what I'm really interested in. Real world numbers for vray since thats what we use.

well I just bought the 4200. they both have the same clock speed, but the 4400 has 1mb of lvl 2 cache while the 4200 has 512k lvl 2 cache. So in certain situations, Im sure the 4400 will outperform the 4200.

                              Percy,

What size power supply is required and also which motherboard did you choose. I can't seem to find anyting on the power supply other than 24 pin connector being needed.

I'm ordering two of these tomorow for my farm.
