      Hey Serge,

What bios changes did you make to get that overclock? was it just by upping the FSB or did you also increase the voltages for the cpu and memory?
      Details would be fantastic.

      Thanks.

This is what my Athlon X2 4200+ will do without overclocking...

          5mins 58.9 sec

Now that is with Corsair RAM - 4 GB, CAS 2, 400MHz. By default the MB does not set it correctly - it was at CAS3 and 333MHz, which was exactly 5% slower on this scene – 6mins 16sec. So a speedup of 5% by getting the settings right was great.

And XP only sees 3G, which is a shame, but I am not in the mood for 64 bit driver hell for a year or so…

As for overclocking with the Asus A8N SLI Deluxe, I can only boot at 5% overclock, and it is not 100% stable, (run Photoshop and fill your RAM during a MAX render and some SETI– that will tell you in a hurry!) so I am running at standard.

(This machine was to replace a flaky one, so I don’t care about a few %, I just want a stable main work machine)

The 10,000 rpm Raptor 74G is great though. Bootup in about 30 seconds!

mmm why is your render much brighter than others?
I would check all your gamma/color correction settings and render again.

Somone elses render was much darker and then they fixed it up their render time was different.

Well spotted. Haven't calibrated my new LCD monitor and didn't notice.

Time took an extra 1.6 seconds.. 5 mins 59.6sec!

hehe see a HUGE difference... LOL

I think I will be getting the same RAM as you, but only 2gb to start with. That was the match pair 2gb (2x1024) cas2 stuff wasnt it. Stock timings of 2-3-2-6 I believe?

                  I think so. See PM.

My latest X2 4200 render went back down to 5mins:57.9sec. (killed a few background things) So gamma doesnt appear to affect it worth a damn.

And the biggest MAX/VRAY render that I can get without crashing uses 2.77G of RAM. (using boot /3GB switch).

Shame I can't overclock even 5% without stability probs. C'mon Serge, show us your settings!

checked email did you get my reply?

yeah im pretty sure your 3gb RAM issue is to do your bios

You should be able to overclock to atleast 2.5gb, (others have)

Yep, got it, just a little sleepy today. (too much late night work tweaking)

I would love to know the overclocking settings exactly, but to be honest I think I will get it running and bulletproof before I muck with it. The whole point of buying this one is to get a box that Just F'ing Works.
