Also, this has no effect on shadows when fully transparent.
It's early though, so I might be missing something obvious...
For open volumes try enabling the Front shader's Thin Walled option and disabling VRay2SidedMtl's "Force single-sided sub-materials". Shadows will stay, however.

Shadows working is pretty crucial for the specific effect of course, though even with that limitation it might come in handy
      in some situations

Perhaps it's working. Thanks for the hint.

Why did Chaos add that feature to V-Ray Maya? It must have been requested by advanced Maya users.
Perhaps it will be a hint for developing advanced compositing workflows and special effect shaders like this one.

Hi everyone. To remove the shadow, unclick "Affect shadows" in the settings of the fully transparent material
Here is a file prepared with blend material instead of 2sided. And a video showing the result. However, I need to mention that it's not the fastest method to render.

I'm not sure why it appears to work with a teapot but it does.

Doesn't work with arbitrary objects, so the attached is a sphere and a box.
I tried primitives and they were all the same.

Also anything with thickness makes it break, given the setup with thin-walled.

            The quest continues I guess

In the V-Ray object properties unclick "Visible in refractions".

That does indeed work, though it would create another problem, as most scenarios would involve overlapping objects and
                so would cut those off
