  • Vray & Sketchup

I was thinking about the Vray plugin for SketchUp. What would be the advantages (aside from SketchUp's fast modeling time) and disadvantages to using it for this program?

I was thinking materials and modeling would be the main issues. Seeing that complex modelling isn't done in Sketchup. Also, Sketchup has some prebuilt library items such as trees to work around.

The other thing I would wonder about is how this would effect the archvis industry as a whole? Would vis people really be settling for these renders versus Max produced ones? It shakes things up a bit IMO...

Also, will it be included to those who already have Vray Advanced?

    Screens please!

I think if vray was totally integrated within sketch up......you coud easily say goodbye to the use of max in the arch indutstry

It will certainly change things IMO. However, don't look for animations out of SU. At least not now. Also, no backburner. And no modifiers like MAX/VIZ have.

Those are the negatives off the top of my head (as relating to Arch of course.) But I had to think a while mind you. Far more positives in ease of modeling, etc. SU has its own internal problems, but they are not major and I'm sure they will be overcome in due course. It's still a very new prog.

I haven't seen the plugin, but I'm anxious to have a peek. Would save a lot of SU -> ACAD -> VIZ -> VRAY headaches.

I've used SU and Vray Quite a bit - especially when a client wants something quick then decides to take it another step up in looks - You dont have the modeling of Max but it really is quite quick and transfers well into max as an autocad file.

Haven't posted images before but I'll put up a few soon as I get the hang of it. - It late Sunday evening and intend on getting some R&R. before the week starts again. If any of you have a quick how to as far as posting image I have a few renderings I'd like to share.

Assuming you dont have your own webspace, then your best bet is to upload the file to imageshack.us then use the "direct link to file" link and put that between the IMG tags in your post.

So when making your post press the img button up the top and that will put a [img] code into your post then paste the link to the image then press the Img button again and that will close the code.

Should look something like this when your done

          [img] http://www.imageshack.us/uploads/render.jpg [/img]
          **except without the spaces
And that will show your image in the post.

Then just finish of your post and obviously hit submit

            Sketchup and vray

            first of all -thanks DaForce

This is a quick export /import work well enough to get the rendering to looking a bit better than the sketchup look.

Wow - that makes a big difference on a simple sketchup scene. I wonder if the new plugin will operate similar to the Max version or how many controls/features it will be stripped of.
