from amd website.
when you first install windows it only sees one core(depending on what drivers came with your mobo!) so you need the driver for it to run 2 cores properly. http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._13118,00.html
You dont need any drivers to run with both cores!!
Dont, what ever you do enable or install anything to do with cool and quiet!!
The driver you should use (if you want to isntall it) is the one called AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.2.2.2
The main thing is that drive doesnt make windows see the 2nd core... it just maanages how the cores run.... voltages...etc...
With a fresh install XP it will recognize both cores. If you use an existing install of xp or win2k you will need to make a little drive change in the Device manager to get it to recognize both cores.
And just to clear things up further XP has the ability to see 2 cores or more by default, so you definitly dont need no drivers to make that happen. Cause as far as XP is concern the X2 is just another dual cpu setup so it instlaled the appropriate system HAL driver to manage that.
Well I got my machine with preinstaled windows xp and it seas two cores and they render at maximum speed.
Its 10% faster than my dual Opteron 246 but it crashes often and renders darker renderings, but they are just slight darker so its not the case that it doesnt see the Ir map over network but its enough to flicker in animation.
Any sugestions, do I have to install any drivers or maybe something is wrong with procesor. How do I check that becouse memory is ok, tested with memtest few times and there is no errors.
well it certainly shouldnt crash, and as for the dark frames... well thats just weird.
Are you 120% sure that all vray versions are totally identical. Are theere any additional gamma controls on any of the machines that could be causeing this?
Try installing the AMD driver that i mentioned but use the link that was posted previously.
Do you get a crash when rendering locally on that machine (or through 3dsmaxcmd.exe if it's not licensed for a workstation)? If yes, can you show the c:\vraylog.txt file right after the crash? Also what are your settings (e.g. light cache, irradiance map etc)? Finally, if you disable multithreading or completely disable one of the cores, do you still get the problems?
I have changed decimal to "." and it doesnt render darker images now, that helped and I left it to continue rendering. If it crash again I will send vray log.
My settings are Ir map for primary and lightcache for secundary bounces.
By the way where do I disable one core.
Once you have 3dsmax open. Bring up the task manager (CTRL + ALT + DELETE) then click on the Processes tab and then right click on 3dsmax.exe and choose set affinity... and then untick CPU 1 and click OK
Now it will run on just one core.
You will need to do this each time you open max (if you want to try it out a few times) as this settings is not remembered.
hello , i need an advice about amd dual core system , i have two dual xeon and they work fine with vray and autodesk viz , and i´m thinking buying a new system amd dual core 265 , and after reading this posts about amd dual core problems i get a litle afraid from buying amd dual core , do you think i amd is stable ?? I know they run much faster than the dual xeon, but i prefer a stable system than faster problems system.
Well I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that these newfangled AMD 4400+ X2 processors are fine with Vray and Max7/8. We've just invested in 9 of these machines!
I haven't had a chance to check them thoroughly yet - they are currently burning-in with Prime95 (been going about 36 hours so far)
