why dont you guys do some benchmark tests ... all render the same scene on all your machines and post em here to see if there is any difference.

      paulo silva:
The X2's are rock solid stable. Given that this is only thread so far of someone having problems who is using an X2 (and even now there is no proof that it IS the X2) there is atleast 10-15 people who have X2's on the forum here and no one else is having any problems. You can assume they are fine just based on that alone.
I have an X2 and i give it a hell of a work out, not just rendering but everything i can throw at it , and it has not faultered once!

Get an X2, get a good motherboard, get a good PSU, get some good RAM and you will be very very happy

            Just to put it simple:

I have a Compaq Presario 1560 with X2-3800+ (1 G RAM, XP Home) and it is rendering a really complex scene as fast as my dual Xeon 3.4 WS (4 G RAM, XP PRo). This is without hyperthreading on the WS. Although I'm very happy with the speed, I'm a bit sad that I had to pay at least 6-fold for my WS No crashes, no color differences on frames, nothing bad to say. It's rendering 3 days in a row now, and it's still cooler then my fridge

                My story is slightly different.

We ordered 9 of the Shuttle SN25P barebones kits with AMD 4400 X2s and Crucial value ram. 3 of the 9 machines refuse to boot - just the fans run at full speed and there is no post screen. The other 6 seem to be OK so far, although I have run Prime95 on them for 64 hours and one of the machines failed the torture test after 3 hours.

Needless to say, three of the barebones are being switched and one set of the RAM will be switched.

This, of course, is not specific to the X2s, but its annoying nevertheless. The X2s that are running seem to run very well indeed - faster than our dual xeon workstations and a third of the size/cost!
                Kind Regards,
                Richard Birket

Your problems sound like bad build quality or cactus parts... just like yuo said.
Atleast your able to get them replaced

                    paulo silva:
Cool dont forget to try the updated benchmark here so you can see how it lines up with the other X2's

Da_elf - I just got the replacement machines through and attached all the components. It seemed to work fine, but then went to the old black screen again. My heart sank!

Anyway, after reading several threads on another forum, I thought I would be persistant. Basically, I pulled out bits, replaced bits, unscrewed screws and screwed them back, pulled our more bits, shouted, cursed, put pits in, removed bits, swapped bits, wiggled bits. After about the 30 or 40th boot, I got the post screen!

My conclusion is these machines are very VERY picky about setup. I have built many machines before and never known anything like this. Keep trying and I think it will work.
                          Kind Regards,

Running an X2 here since late May this year when they first came out and the only issue Ive had is when I first installed it, it only saw 1 processor but after a simple BIOS update its been more stable than my Xeon

                            Machine specs below

why do you need to disable a core? isnt that restricting the chips performance that you spent money for?
