  • Vray 1.5 Installed and running!!!

well.. what can i say.. I'm ultra happy..
Just got back from siggraph, received my dongle and install disc on nice cd box from vlado and peter personally (pleasure meeting you guys)..
    things to remark..
-The installation says Vray 1.5 RC1 for max 8, (is the only installer in the disc), I installed over max 7 with no problem..overwriting my old 1.47.03
software for the dongle was ultra easy also.. reboot connect the usb thing , and done..
One single problem.. I had an alias of the VRlic server in the startup items, i dont remember if the old installer puts it there, or it was me..( its been there for so long) well this one did not got overwriten by the new one.. so I was getting worried after lunching max and not founding the license.. but was an easy fix, delete the old one lunch the new one and .. presto! vray1.5 running..
    - nice program group of all and new utilities, help files, converters ( one for EXR's !!) , etc under program list.. very good

the dongle soft also gets there, with some utilities that I dont know what they do yet.. server check and so..

well I'm off to install on the render nodes..

someone intersted in seeing pictures of the stuff, let me know.. ( for some its going to be some weeks until they see their dongle, and maybe never get to see the vray1.5 cd package because they'll downloadit.. I, know there are some fan boys around.. )

    cheers

o and siggraph was / is a blast!

Do you realise a post like this is like teasing a tiger with a raw steak?

            lets see the pics

...this is not a fair post...
I've just ordered our 3rd licence...requested the 3 dongles but since
I'm in Brazil I'will have to wait (just a few I hope) more days...
              Best regards,

                  Detail enhancement - what's this?
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

It is sort of like a blend between the irradiance map and QMC GI - e.g. it allows you to use the irradiance map for the large flat areas, and QMC GI where you have fine details. It is slower than pure irradiance map, but faster than QMC GI, and it can bring out all the little details in the GI solution. By concept it is similar to ambient occlusion, but it's actually physically correct and takes into account the proper light bouncing.

Since flickering in animations happens primarily around fine geometry details, the detail enhancement allows you to reduce this to a great degree as well.

We will compile a page with more info and examples on the new features when we get back home.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado
