Maybe with 1.5 RC2 or newer you can do DR for precalc IR/LC, but I haven't experimented.

I still send the IR/LC precalc to one machine, even if I precalc every frame, to prevent flickering.

Why are you precalcing every frame? Even with a fast paced animation you should be able to do maybe every 5th one.

Its to avoid the risk of flickering as there's SO much vegetation I'd imagine its quite easy for areas to get missed in the precalc due to so many leaves.

It was also because you mentioned needing the LC on every frame.... perhaps I dont need this as for this test I'm not using any glossies.

So, perhaps I should precalc the IR/none pass every 5 frames, then for the final render I can send it out over the network with IR 'from file', and LC calculated per frame. I know that attemption LC as a walkthrough with world scale would probably cause a poweroutage to the west of scotland due to the amount of leaves in the calculations, and number of samples required.

Maybe I'm wrong? Vlado, maybe I could challenge you to a scene optimisation contest

I can take a look at your video as soon as my IT guy unblocks my streaming video restrictions. Damn Websense!

LC is calculated for every frame regardless of the the Nth frame value for the IR. Just make sure if using World scale that you have high enough subdivs because they are distributed throughout the entire animation.

Clifton, can you just right click and choose to download it as opposed to streaming it?

No unfortunately Websense is too clever for that. If you right click and try to "save target as", you will just get a blockpage.htm file created. Bastards! Its no wonder the U.S. government chooses it for their web security. Its definitely overkill for a London architecture firm.

Hah, I left that arch firm just before more corporate-style network management policies kicked in.

I'll email the anim if you want.

Oh yeah, you used to work at SR. Oh, they just unblocked the site for me.

That looks fantastic! Very atmospheric. I look forward to seeing the whole thing.

                        Cheers dude.
Its a shame there's no context to the site.... as its for a flower show so the surroundings would just be other gardens, and people milling around.... So I'm keeping it 'floating in space' for my client, but I might well stick some generic background if I get a chance later.

Good to see the IT department obliging so quickly. Is norman still there?

Yeah, the IT guys take care of me because I'm one of the few "power users" in this firm. Its amazing how many architects are barely computer literate. Oh, and I sit right next to them so if they take too long I just yell "hey what's taking so long" or something.

I used to have local admin rights, but at some point about a year ago they locked everything down across the board. They prefer to unblock things for me 3 or 4 times a day...

I just asked who Norman was. He left 3 years ago. Mike Buffalino is the IT director, and Stephen Solt and Gary both recently left. Freddy left about 6 months ago. What department did you work in here?

man I just can't fathom working in a place like you guys are describing. Good thing my boss and owner of the company started his own arch vis house specifically because he hated those style of places. no offense intended.

Well, I guess it helps general office productivity....

besides the internet gestapo, I had a great time working there.

I would like to work for a smaller operation, but I needed a work visa. Its rare to find a small office that is willing to sponsor someone.

But it is a nice place to work and the office is broken up into 3 buildings, so it doesn't seem like 300 people work here. Plus, because its a large firm they buy me things like multiple dual opteron render nodes.
