      • Finally able to post so I thought my first post could be a benchmark

I'm totally shocked by the performance of Mac Pro of GregM. I wonder what that system costs...

        • Yeah the mac pro seams the way forward GregM whats xeon cpus are in them might look at building a similar type machine.

Just looked but not sure on the motherboard:

          8-core processing
Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300 series processors
          Intel Core microarchitecture
8MB of L2 cache per processor (16MB total; each pair of cores shares 4MB)
          128-bit SSE3 vector engine
          64-bit data paths and registers
          Energy efficiency optimization
1.33GHz, 64-bit dual independent frontside buses

          • Yeah certainly for performance you would go with AMD at the moment. THe intels are just too fast.
Wether you buy it in PC form or a Mac it will still be damn fast.

The Mac Pro (with Intel 5365's)cost around $5000 ...and the Boxx system was about $6000

You can go to Apple's site and price one out. The trick is to buy Ram and hard drives from other vendors since Apple charges too much for those items. Prices should come down a bit after the Intel price drop.

You know, I think I might actually be able to do that :P
                  Except I have a P4 2.53Ghz with 2Gb Ram

                          • I felt it was about time I posted on this thread!

This is my new workstation at work, cheap but very effective.

q6600 (no overclock - IT wont let me and besides... its an HP so no go anyway!)

                            8gb 667mhz DDR2

Machine at home run it in about 1:30 or so just by overclocking to 3ghz

looks like you've double gamma'd your image or something when comparing it to the others in this thread...

also - which vray version + os are you using?
