  • Just got some new nodes x5650. Render at 37seconds on there own.

But with DR going to 8 of them. I think I've got the fastest render time so far

    • How about adding your benchymarkies to this database:

      - just a just a thought.

That's fast! Could you give more details on your computer or blade specs? And are you saying you have 8 computers or what?

          • Hey Rhys, can't you post the image from a single node render - DR is not much use in this benchmark comparison.

            • He already mentioned that it rendered in 37 seconds...no need to post the image.

I am considering on getting an i7 980x and pushing it as further as air cooling allows,

has any body tried benchmarking an overclocked 980x?

                • Time for a new machine!

Using an EVGA SR-2 motherboard - that is right - dual hexacore Xeons AND overclocking. (with HT = 24 threads)

                  Dual X5650 2.67GHz running at 4.00GHz on aircooling, 24GB RAM. - 22.5 seconds

This is really starting to get dependent on buckets, just FYI this image rendered at 5000 pixels wide renders in 8 mins 27 seconds.

It is on average 4.95 times faster than my Q6600 quadcore at 3.4GHz in VRAY. Nice upgrade!

How much did that machine cost? didn't know that you could overclock a dual xeon that much very good result indeed..

I built it for about $6K aussie dollars including refundable 10% tax = about $5100 USD. (see below)

It is the only motherboard I know of that can overclock dual Xeons, AND have high graphics performance, AND can use cheaper non-ECC ram.

Working well so far, with one exception - crackly audio under heavy load, which I haven't fixed yet.

Only a few cases can fit it - it is huge. There are lots of things to research should you decide to build one - not for beginners. go to the EVGA forums and read a lot. But it is about half the price of an equivalent Dell. And faster.

Pretty sick setup That mobo is badass to say the least! 2 sockets and 12 Dimm Slots, yummy, is that a dual Lan too?

Oddly (or not) enough I have a single i7 980 X running @ 4.0 ghz and its time is almost exactly double of yours... and so was the price of your machine

                          • I'm trying to download the benchmark (on page 1 of this thread) but the file seems to be damaged. Anywhere else to get it from?
