  • I needed two stations and the X5355 would have increased the price $1680. This would have killed my budget, but man that render time! If only money were no object.

      We also just got 6 renderboxxes, same spec but with 4gb ram!

              Wow, very nice system - congrats

              A couple of questions...

              How loud is it?

              What OS are you running, XP 64 or Vista 64?

                  • GregM> Not loud at all compared to my old IBM Z-pro, in fact extremely quiet. Windows XP x64. I won't be going to Vista anytime soon.

                      thats a great time for the QX6700. I should be receiving mine soon. What motherboard do you use and what kind of settings in the bios for the overclock? Is it running 100% stable at that speed?

                      • Ran a few quick tests on my new QX6700 :

                        @2.66ghz = 2:40min
                        @3.00ghz = 2:22min

                        At 3ghz, the system marginally outperforms a dual xeon 5160 (same speed), for a lot less money...

                        QX6700
                        4gb RAM

                        The SD37P2 is not geared for hardcore overclockers, but it allows to reasonably up the speed never the less. I like the compactness of the Shuttles and it makes "work on site" far more convenient...
                        I'm tempted to say the QX6700 is the best "performance buy" at the moment...

                            • Instead of new benchmarks, we could just double the resolution.

                              ..I guess maybe though that would lead to more confusion than it's worth anyways.

                              • from what i see so far the qx 6700 seems to be the best money/performance choice today.
                                I'm about to buy a few render nodes for the office do you guys think i should go with those?
