Thought some of you might be interested - without mentioning any names (they can feel free to post here), the Intel Quad QX6700 clocked in this benchmark around 3:14. This means that the dual Intel Xeon 5160s (retailing around $800-$900/each) still outpace the new Quad model by roughly 40s.

Yes yes, to be expected. Would like to see a new Xeon 5320 system with dual core2 Quad do this one. Any have a dual quad core Xeon laying around for rendering purposses ? I should think that they would be around two times faster than the 5160 xeons, depending on the model and memory used.

I think individually-speaking, they have lower Mhz. Still, a dual 5320 with 8 buckets is going to beat a dual 5160 with 4 buckets.

interesting rc2 benched almost 40 seconds faster? I did notice some light bleed in the rc2 version...The ceiling is darker due to recompression in photoshop...

Okay, now I win...
Anyway, since I started showing these to the bosses, they're finally upgrading my computer - my old 3.2 ghz P4 EE is getting a minor upgrade to a dual 5345 (or whatever Intel's calling the 2.33 ghz quad cores) so once I get that I'll run the bench and see what the improvement is... I expect it will render a bit faster, but that's just a hunch.
