Redviewer 1.4 The interactive viewport with VRay 1.5 support
Currently, redviewer does not support glossy reflections. Only perfect reflections are displayed. Concerning VRayMtl support, glossy reflections are first approximated by applying an attenuation coefficient to the sharp reflections (depending on the reflection glossiness parameter value).
leotchest & kimgar: about the price of redviewer, i just want to mention that a special offer (50% discount) is currently running for redviewer 1.4. Give a look at our website for details.
I couldn't get it to work on Max8 with XP64bit. I changed all the settings to what is specified for Quadro cards (including that layer one) and still got black viewports.
I didn't roll back my drivers because of compatibility issues with other software. I don't really mind if certain raytrace things like reflections didn't work... I couldn't get any results out of the redviewer software other than black viewports.
I also was getting a problem where some of my scenes would crash Max when I attempted to open them, removing RedViewer fixed the problem. These scenes had been saved with RedViewer installed.
Unfortunately, after uninstalling, the RedViewer toolbar still exists in Max. I think you need to rewrite your installer to support removing it when uninstalling.
I'd really like to play around with this program. I think if it worked, we'd be quite likely to buy a couple of licenses. But I can't revert to really old drivers, and it just isn't working on our setup. I think if RedViewer believes there is a problem with the last nine months or so of NVidia's driver releases, then they should work with NVidia to get it resolved. From what I understand, NVidia is actually pretty good at working with software developers, and I doubt they'd overlook a critical flaw in their drivers for so long.

About the toolbar removing problem, we know that in some custom UI setups the redviewer toolbar is not removed from 3ds Max when it gets uninstalled.
A simple workaround for that is to delete the toolbar manually from the Customize/Customize User Interface menu in 3ds Max. We are working on a fix for the next release of redviewer open beta.
Dynedain: redviewer is not intrusive. It means that in no case, redviewer modifies the data that are read or written to 3ds Max files. So, installing and then removing redviewer will not have any consequences on your data. Concerning the black screen bug it would be a very good thing if you could get in touch directly with us through support@redway3d.com. This way, we could work with you to solve the issue.
We may offer free licenses of Redviewer 1.4 to those that can spend some time with us to make redviewer better.
