The price includes upgrades to all future minor releases of redviewer, i.e. 1.5, 1.6 and so on.
A special offer will be made to our customers every time a major version of redviewer is released to upgrade from previous major version to current.

The next minor version of redviewer will be compatible with 3ds Max9 32 & 64 bits. So, every customer would have the opportunity to upgrade at no cost.

bluescreen2: sorry, there is no 3ds Max 9 32bits trial available right now.

Just tried the trial for max8 (compiling a max9 version should be pretty high priority I hope), and found that reflections only work if one first turn off redviewer reflections, and then back on again, but as soon as you try to navigate the view or adjust anything in the scene, they disappear again.
The biggest issue I have at the moment is that it doesn't support the 1.5 materials like fast sss. All i want is for it to display the deep colour, or maybe a mix of the deep and the shallow. Then again, this could also be solved by Vlado if he fixed the shader so it doesn't just spit out a black colour to the directx\opengl display system. Same goes for the vray blend material. Having it blend the materials correctly isn't that important, but at least let it display the base material. This would make the process of showing clients previews and not having to answer silly remarks like " no, it only looks black, but in reality it is actually a pink wax" etc.
One feature that I would love to see, that should be easy to do (at lest in directx) is a "post scene shader" that mimics the distortion setting in the vrayphyscam. It would be really handy to be able to see the curved perspective and the changes to the actual view. Is this possible?

        Helle Christian,

sounds like a wrong driver issue. Be sure to carefully read the recommended drivers section of the redviewer setup (or in the user's reference guide).

Adding support for other VRay materials than VRayMtl is planned. But our first prioriry is to make redviewer compatible with 3ds Max 9 32 & 64 bits.

Does anybody else consider that previewing VRayPhysicalCam distortions is a high priority request? (despite what you think, that's not an easy thing to do )

Well, I'm running a geforce 7800 GT, on driver version 91.47 so they are apparently the cause of the reflection issue.
I read through the info regarding nvidia (non quadro) card settings, and can't seem to find any settings I might have set up wrong. Anyway, the reflection issue is not really that important to me. What I mostly need it for is to make previews of animation that don't contain black materials, and to check dof (which works perfectly). As a bonus I quite fancy motion blur as a feature as well (not able to check if it already works or not).
Sorry about the comment about it seeming easy to replicate the curved lens, I just figured that since a multitude of games have this as pixel shaders already, and that I seem to remember seeing an example of a cg-shader doing this out somewhere on the net, that it wasn't much of an issue.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

bluescreen2: there will not be any trial version of redviewer for 3ds Max9 before end of March.

trixian: in fact, it is quite easy to do screen deformations (just like ripples to the surface of water) with GPU shaders but VRay camera deformations are a lot more complex. You can't compute the result of a VRay camera deformation by modifying the result of a "normal" rendering as a post process.
Motion blur is not available yet. We are not quite sure that it needs viewport pre-visualization (as it seems that in most cases camera effects are applied during compositing (and not rendering)).

I have a 7900 GT with 84.21 drivers, and noticed the VRay Lights aren't reflected (not are visible in the shaded view, which they should as they are in the renderer).
I understand that it can easily be faked, but would it be possible to have them show in reflections directly?
Another important feature (maybe this too can be faked with a falloff map), in my eyes, is the fresnel response, at the moment ignored.
Lowering glossiness from 1.0 also dims reflection (which it shouldn't), while correctly adding the specular.

Nice steps in the right direction, though!

                  Thank you Lele!

VRay lights are not seen in reflections as they are not considered as geometry. So, you need to fake them with meshes in order to see them in reflections. I've added your request to our wish list.

Fresnel term is going to be handled in the next release of redviewer.

As glossiness is not yet supported in redviewer 1.4, lowering glossiness makes perfect reflections disappear slowy (it is quite a rude approximation). This will be removed when adding glossiness support.

As a side note, thanks for the safety-net you coded in.
I wanted to have it crash and burn, and couldn't manage.
I tried 250 lights in one scene, ranging from spots to IES to whatever else, and when i tried and turn on reflection+areashadows, it didn't crash, it simply let me know the video/system memory was out, and closed redviewer.

                    Nice one.

I installed on 32bit Max8 RC2 and couldn't get the viewport to show anything more than a basic shaded view. It had the watermark and the logo in the upper right corner. I didn't have time to deal with it so I uninstalled it. My toolbars went away by the way.

The problem I am having is that I am having issues viewing/displaying/rendering 32bit Tiff files. They appear very dark and saturated in blue. HDR, jpg etc display fine. the same 32bit tiffs display fine on other machines in the office that have not installed the plugin.

Here is an image of the issue. It shows up fine in the preview window and in the material editor sample. but it displays and renders incorrectly.

Below is the File View dialog with a preview, then the resulting tiff and then an Exr. The Tiff is too dark...

Anyone else have similar issues? Or is this caused by something else i am missing.

                          Thanks

I have a Quadro 3500 and the latest driver. 91.36 I have uninstalled the plugin and i'm looking at which files may have been changed by the install. I also tried resetting the driver back to defaults.

It only seems to happen with Tiffs. the whole image is dark if i render it.

the latest drivers might be the issue. You might have to roll back to an earlier driver as not all of them are supported
