  • What is easier with an alpha channel ? Instead of the Alpha, just use the Red Green or Blue channel click the convert to selection button and you're set

        • it should do as long as your proxies are set up with object ids

          • Do you mean apply object IDs before they are exported as proxies ?

              • Ok, I have had a look at this and its alright to apply the ID to the proxy directly in the scene and not have to set the ID before the proxy is generated.

Thank fook, I had visions of late nights redoing all our proxies !!

                • Is there a possibility to make smth with a reflection pass ? Can it be matted as easily as your addie does with plain geometry ?
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

                  • Nope,

With renderelements you can only write info to the buffer that the shaders return. So unless one writes a shader that returns the ID of the reflected object instead of his own, you can't.

                    • i am having a bit of trouble getting the images to save out by themselves. i am trying to specify the path and file type directly in the render elements / multimatte roll out tab.

                      it doesn't seem to work.

if working with the vray frame buffer, do i need to save the files by 'split render channel'?

                      • yes, when vray is selected as renderer then the elements save controls are ignored/disabled and vray handles it all by itself. So you can either use save split channels, or render to vrimg/exr directly via the vfb

                        • thanks.

another nifty trick is to use this, and turn off the GI when rendering. i am color correcting a detailed floor pattern. i am able to render my matte passes with no GI in about 25 second each for a 2000 wide pixel rendering.
