  • LWF setup file for 1.5 SP1

Hi kids. As I mentioned in this post I've been following the LWF method described by Lele and have been generally pretty happy with the workflow. I've been working on quite a few long timeline projects and haven't been able to transition to the new sun/sky/camera model that is part of the latest 1.5 SP1 release. Now I finally have new projects to work on. Huzzah! And I'm reworking my LWF to use the new sun/sky/camera model. I tried using math to set the ISO value, but I just ended up with a burning sensation at the back of my head, so I just tinkered until I got a value pretty close to white for a surface perpendicular to the sun. I set the F-stop to 8, shutter speed to 100 and adjusted the ISO to 44. The diffuse color/bitmaps have the RGB multiplier adjusted to .255. I did not adjust the reflection color. I tried .255 for reflection, but it just didn't look right. Please let me know if I have screwed up somewhere.

To use this file correctly you must change the Gamma setting in Max.

Looks good. Just curious about why you adjusted the ISO instead of the shutter speed?

Clifton is getting at standard photography, which you would normally adjust the shutter speed instead of the iso.

very thanks to you, it's a great scene to test the LWF. very usefull

is there the same settings for camera standard ? We use a lot of them for "boxe rendering" and it isn't possible to do with vray cam (strange also)
        i ll be back

You would need to use color mapping and/or turn down the sun brightness to approximate the exposure you would get from the physical cam

Yeah. You can get a similar result with F8, Shutter Speed 225 and ISO 100. Actually these settings seem a bit more "natural" don't they. So, just adjust to suit your taste.

Am I right in thinking that this method does not work for interiors though.

Of course. You would need to increase the shutter speed for interiors... Just like in real-life.

OK, but would the .255 output still apply?

Don't know... I don't use that method. Isn't it for gamma correction of vray colors? If so, it would apply regardless. LWF is not scene dependent.
