  • Idiot nonprogramer seeks hand holding... for Volume Light code

I would like to get Max's volumetric light working with VrayPhysCam.

I got this pointer for Vlado:

"... The other option is to recompile the 3ds Max volumetric lights (they are in the 3ds Max SDK) with the clamping code removed."

Without wearing out anyone's patience, I wonder if someone might give this lowly nonprogrammer advice as to how this might be done... what steps are involved - or maybe just point me in the right direction.

    Many thanks for any help!

Basically you'd have to get Visual C++ (supposedly the free express version is sufficient ?? but not the 2k8 ones but the 2k5 ones if i recall right for max9) Then you install the sdk of your max DVD. It includes sources as examples in the samples folder. Look for the volumetric lights one and find the clamping (where the heck is waldo for a non programmer i guess :P) and remove it.

    Regards,
    Thorsten

Would be easier if you tell me which 3ds Max version you have and I'll do this for you.

      Best regards,

one more thing: why doesn't vrayshadowmap work with Volumetric Lights.

Vlado, I know you've been super busy.

Have you had a chance to take a look at this?

If I remember right, there was talk about having own
volume light system in VRay? How is that going?

It's somewhat working... there are a few things to fix still for it to be useable.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

It's American election legal mumbo-jumbo speak.

Vlado, you mentioned that you might be able to, "recompile the 3ds Max volumetric lights (they are in the 3ds Max SDK) with the clamping code removed"

Is that still a possibility, in the mean time - until we get the super-cool improved volumetric light?
