    Hi,

i'm searching a way to mix positive and negative displacement value on same object.

I know we can only use one vraydisplacement mod by object, so i use multi/sub-object materials with 3d mappind actived and mlt selected with different texture chanel.

Why can't we use negative value for displacement slot like bump slot ?

i tried to invert displacement map (in output slot) but my object loose his continuity...

With Mental ray, if i change 100 to -100 for displacement slot i have the result i'm searching.

Is there a way to do the same with Vray?

    Thanks

    Sorry for my english.

I don't think there is a way to do this with the displacement in the material; would be better to use VRayDisplacementMod with one of the multi/sub-object map plugins that are available.

For example, you can use the MultiIDMap texture from www.maxplugins.de

        Hi,

Please can anyone suply a sample scene with positive and negative displacement values on the same object using Vray?

We can not get it to work either

Here is an example (requires the MultiIDMap2 plugin). You can of course use different textures for the positive and the negative parts. If the two textures exactly coincide at the 0 value, there is no need to use the "Keep continuity" option in VRayDisplacementMod.

The idea is that the negative and positive range is squeezed into the positive [0-1] interval; the Shift value in VRayDisplacementMod is used to stretch it back into a negative and positive portion.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

            Thanks for the file Vlado!

It was the negative shift value that we were missing.

thank you vlado for your help and your reactivity.
It's really good to know we can ask questions and have rapidely answers to our problems.

i well understand your process, but think it's litle complicate way.

your base output slot have 0.5 in output amount,
the two files for displacement are the same but one have Output Amount -1.0 for invert it.

So in vraydisplacementmod Amount 20 and shift -10....

Thanks again and sorry for my english.
