  • Question about 3dsmax R3

We have a quick question for you: how many of you are using 3dsmax R3 and R4? With the release of R6, we need to support that as well. This means some additional work to recompile and test all the different VRay flavours (there are currently six of them: Free, Demo, Basic, Advanced, NFR, Educational). Each new release of VRay requires the recompile and testing of each of these flavours on all four supported 3dsmax versions (R3, R4, R5 and R6). If none of you are using R3/R4 anymore, we could drop those builds, or at least delay their release, and concentrate on the rest.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Although I have two copies of MAX6 on the shelf here, I'm still using MAX 3.1. Now, one day... probably by the end of the year, I'll be using 6, for now I'm far to busy to switch over and in need for cash to upgrade my computers and all the plug-ins too. For now I'm happy with version m (advanced) which I installed only a month ago, so I'm not a guy that will need the newest built.
For now I'm trying to make as much money as possible with old computers so I can buy some beautifull dream machines in the near future.

I'm still using max 4 version too....

And maybe will switch directly to max 6 some day next year... Let's see...
But I am also thinking about the guys that are using VIZ 4, they need the max4 instaler, right?

      Regards,
      Joao.

we have max 4 on one machine for redundancy, but our workflow is arranged around 5 at the moment. We hope to switch to 6 once all we need is fully functional on it.

I still use MAX 3.1. Unfortunately this may not change for the next two years

I too, still use v3- and I might remind you that you did if fact promise continued support for quite some time. I based my purchase long ago on that statement that you made.

As the first legit version is just about to go out the door, one can one only hope that you honor your statement for at least while.

Put another way, the boys from brazil don't seem to have that problem in their continued support of both 3 and 4. I and I'm sure other's, can only hope for the same from you guy's.

Quite honestly, in my situation I've held back because obviously what the max upgrades have offered simply aren't worth it vis-a-vis price.

Now the stand alone is a whole different animal as i suspect that others like myself would just as soon go elsewhere than to keep 'supporting' discreet.

              Thanks for listening.

I think that trying to support 4 versions of MAX is asking a bit much of Chaos.

Release 4 should continue to be supported due to VIZ 4, as this is still the current version of the product.

I understand that some people have not upgraded because they did not see the need because the upgrades did not offer new tools that they needed. However, there are other reasons for upgrading, such as this situation Vlado is talking about here. Just my 2 cents.

Were using 4.26 and 5.1 here in production and 6.0 is still undergoing testing before I put it into production.

Similar to Syclone1 here - 5.1 primarily, 4.26 very occassionally, still testing 6.

                        For the statistic,

                        3dsmax6 & VIZ4

egoistically: for me 3dsmax5 could be unsupported :P

                        Oops! just joking, just joking!

That's semi redundant as you just said that he promised to continue support for quite some time, and tha you bought vray a long time ago.

quite some time and long time = they lived up to their end as far as english lanugage semantics go, but this is just my opinion.

i personally use max5 edu and will probably continue to do so, until studica gets the latest max6 educational version. too bad there are no prices on vray educational on the site.

vlado, don´t you have a download statistic?

isn´t it possible to look how many users have downloaded the different versions?

                            regards

We moved completely to v5 at the start of this year, and won't be moving to 6 until we test it, and a lot of plugins get updated and the bugs sorted.

Every so often I fire up v3 just to see what snappy fast software used to look like
