  • Shadow Pass

    I thought I asked before, but I can't find it. How is the shadow pass used in post? I would expect to see an inverted lighting pass, but it's not. Actually, now that I think about it, you could invert the lighting pass to darken shadows.

    You can add it on top of the final image to remove shadows. I've used it other ways too but not for a while.

      What blend mode? Nothing really makes sense.

        e: i was wrong. i cant remember how i've used it, I just know i've used it for creating masks and to do stuff to some stills a long time ago.

          I always create it, but never us it.

            Glorybound,

            Im assuming your shadow pass is saved on a file that supports Alpha channels. If so, try adding your shadow pass with the blend mode "Add".

              Shadow Render Element could be used to remove shadows in compositing - it basically calculates Lighting information but only in shadows area.
              It is supposed to be used in Plus/Add blending mode.
              Here is one example of its usage.
