If you have some more info i'd really appreciate it...
I guess this is where our naivety helped us - we just made cubes in place in unity and mapped the images to the inside faces. had to cut them up into 4 and map the cubes in max, but it just worked first time. None of us were expecting it to be as easy as it was. Did a test with 10 'scenes' and performance was fine. made a 300mb app.

I looked into amplify texture - if that works on mobile then it could be a way to manage the size. cross that bridge when we come to it though.

    Hey deflix,
    Thanks

    Have a look here : http://wip.sbrusse.com/TP_CubeMap/
Those have taken 3h to render on our farm. It's a bit hard to asses the render power these days as the cpu/nodes are changing so quickly, but as a comparaison our farm should be close to 38k cinebench r15 points
It's still a bit grainy because it's BF/LC, I wonder if I should send them again with IR to have a clean and smooth result and most certainly faster.
I don't see the grain with the Oculus DK2 though.

Here are the 18k renders in cubemap for GearVR:

I haven't got a GearVR to test but I know some have been able to use their Samsung phone with cardboard through web browsers like all the other.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as soon as you slide the phone in the GVR, it switches to the GVR app so you can't use KRPano anymore, but it works for ALL the other platforms, or those Samsung phones with any google card board.

    Stan

unity enables you to open an app on the phone, slot it into the gear vr and hand it to them - launching straight into whatever menu system you design. it's a much more elegant delivery method. you can have the best images in the world but if you're presentation is shit then they're worthless to a buyer.
you are right about the importance of presentation but i've not had an issue using ORBX; i just run ORBX directly from the phone (like a unity app) and am inside the images within a few seconds without even opening oculus home.
ORBX can also implement 2 ui layers, (including video), hotspots, cubemap sequences and audio for each cubemap so have all the tools required to deliver cost-effective content without limitation.

I have built a number of apps using Unity for mobile but am concerned that the additional overhead of running a unity app would kill the peformance of 18k cubemaps, and im not sure how I could load them (ORBX access gpu memory directly).
If you have some more info i'd really appreciate it...

...Also managed to get 60fps 18k cubemap sequences running albeit with 10 frames only, but still an eye opener - ORBX is great but just wish chaosgroup had its own vr authoring/viewing tools tbh.

    E.g. hotspots on stills/animations.

Even with MilkVR, the looping goes to black each time and resets the orientation.
You can script this in LUA and use the ORBX container to play. Here are some tests I did from EVERMOTION scenes

Which app are you watching stereo 360 videos on the new GearVR. I've got the S6 Edge + about an hour ago and can view the video but only in the cinema mode. Trying to find this MilkVR player but not on the Google store or the GearVR store.

What am I missing (done the _TB prefix on the file etc).

    Thanks

*edit* sorry, got it working on Oculus Video

    I use pano2vr.beta.
    https://ggnome.com/pano2vr-5

the community is small compare to KRpano, but there is a user interface, so no need to be a good with "code syntax".
the support is not as good as Chaosgroup for sure.

My question is - what is the key to upload a stereo cube map made with v-ray 3.3 onto a web browser and set it to be viewed as VR? Only krpano or there is another solution?
Or it's only viewable with Samsung Gear VR and their phones?
Many thanks for sharing and have nice holidays all together!

Happy New 2016! I've just tried Samsung Gear VR - the feeling it's amazing. I am eager to offer it to customers. Would like to can move the objects in this new world but that is a question appointed to other developers. Respect to Chaosgroup for the top work again!
    Best regards!

Just got a Gear VR yesterday, and wanted to thank Chaos Group for making supporting it so straightforward.

It will be interesting to see where it goes - it's not had much of a push in the UK so far.
