If it's the case, Zeiss, as an optic specialist, will probably release a VR headset with a fresnel glass too.

You don't need PPI that high, the release version of the oculus has fresnel lenses that renders the pixels invisible even at 1024x1024 pixels.

Well that's quite disapointing to not let you view your content at 4k if you wish.
No matter battery life, VR and specially headsets with mobile phones, will rise as being a business market where you'd have the phone dedicated to that task only.
At least if they released the web browser being 4k, KRPano would work in 4k

The reason why oculus and vive are already out of date res wise is because they are geared towards gaming and real time applications. A top top end computer today will more or less be the minimum requirement for the first gen of headset.
So for pre rendered 3d I think we are better off with the ultra portable phone based VR... which is actually more expensive unless you count the fact that you need a phone anyway.

The detail was far better on the nexus, it was just I could see how the screen worked like in your wiki post. My Moto X Style has the and resolution as the Nexus but uses IPS which to my eyes is the best phone for VR I've found.
Sony are releasing a 4k phone next month, Z5 premium, or something like that.
Why can't they use those type of screens in real headset like oculus etc just to get a wider field of view.
Aren't out yet but they seems already so outdated with those screen that are only 2k

They don't ship to Australia either.
I should have the LG G3 soon and I will compare vs iphone 6+ and vs Sony Z2 and vs Iphone 5. In theory the G3 has the best screen.
