I thoroughly recommend Grant's Tutorials but they are aimed at Intermediate to Advanced users.

There's a rumour that I might be making some tutorials soon.

      Agree, and excited!

Although if you start watching some of the early videos some of the practices are out of date, so you sort of need to watch them all to get the whole picture. In some ways, Grant could go back and add/re-edit the older videos to correct settings etc.

as much as I like Grants videos - i think they are too long for my liking. I have signed up to the more popular courses and I would have to say that Ciros couse is probably my favourite in terms of how basic and to the point it is. You get a LOT out of 10 mins. I feel with Grant there was a lot of trial and error. Ciros course is tructured similiar to Itoo's where its just to the point. No trial and error. Not dissing Grants vid, just that the short and sharp vids suit me more - everyone is different i guess.

Learning how to do your own trial and error is very important, too many tutorials just tell you how to do something without showing you how to get to that conclusion first.

I somewhat agree, but to reach that point you need some help along the way. For official tutorials, getting new users going should be top priority. Having new/changed feature tutorials is just more about getting things to production quicker.

Grants are more about the decision making process & how to think/approach solving a problem - something which can easily be taken and applied to other concepts.
With these straight to the point videos they're often only relevant when you're recreating the exacts conditions in the video. Fine if you just want to see a feature and know it exists, but there's a very different philosophy behind it compared to grants.

Good point and I completely agree... Like i said everyone has a different way of learning and for me its straight to the point. Im sure you all will agree that no matter what tutorials/guides you follow, there will ALWAYS be trial and error involved.

Heya everyone! I for sure want to keep the discussion alive and well, too. The more I hear about specific topics you'd like to see the better, so keep them coming. Here is a podcast I was just on that talks a little about the educational perspective and what we're working on here:
                    https://labs.chaosgroup.com/index.ph...h-derakhshani/

Love to hear your thoughts on that stuff.

Also, we are getting going on a VR output tutorial for V-Ray 3.2 for 3ds Max as well as a Phoenix workflow tutorial rolling along.

Thanks Dariushd - ill take a listen now.

I think for me the most IMPORTANT thing is scene optimisation for interior/exteriors - time is money and i need the best quality in the least amount of time and due to the fact that there are several methods out there, it would be great if we can get an offocial guide for particular situations.

                      Thanks

I have gotten so screwed up by watching youtube videos and people explaining things when they have no business doing so. I get a kick out of people disagreeing with Vlado about how to use the software when he is one of the creators. I think Chaos approved training would be awesome! When I bought my first V-Ray license it came with a DVD, which confused the heck out of me. Periodically I watch it and it still makes no sense. Negitive subdiv.... what???

PS - In regards to this:
Also, we are getting going on a VR output tutorial for V-Ray 3.2 for 3ds Max as well as a Phoenix workflow tutorial rolling along.

Sounds cool and I look forward to it but should that be a priority? From what I can tell scene optimisaton and how settings work should be near top (or top) of the list....

Probably should think about what most are struggling with and demanding and then tackle the requirements and priorities from there...

Well, I was thinking I will probably do a tutorial on this myself. Maybe then someone will listen

                            Best regards,
