I'm happy to hear that it works with no major issues now that SP3 is out. I might try it myself too.

PSD Manager is in beta and Walls & Tiles is working through a major bug with Autodesk.

SP3 fixed hairfarm bug and RPManager has a new update which make it usable with 2017!

So 3ds max 2017 is not Beta anymore it seems. I am starting a project with it right now.

Yes it's fixed. I wonder what took them so long.

Played with SP3 for a few hours yesterday on a relatively complex scene and, fingers crossed, no crash so far.

So perhaps 2017 is ready for use now... All my plugins work with it now too.

My point is that I think it takes less time to master Houdini than max and its zillions plugins, even though Houdini will feel slower to learn at the beginning and even though Houdini can do far more. And nothing prevent you from using both softwares while you master it.
    My point is exact opposite.
I have seen many Houdini artist. But, the one who truly knows/master Houdini is really hard to find.
Many of them had years of experience and big movie credit, but they were still very limited.
To utilize full power of Houdini, you need to remove all the sugar coat which other "easier" program has.
While Houdini is node based program. You still need tons of expression in the node.

That is funny. Also, it cost each user about $1000 to fix something that they broke.

Even our Houdini guys come back to 3dsMax or Maya for non-sim/non-procedural stuff.
Yes, you "can" do anything. But, can-do-in-time is a different story.

I think this way. If you think pflow box#3/TP/MCG is not for you, then your alternative would be C4D or Modo, not Houdini.

So if you are like me a generalist and have to do everything, it's far more easier to do it with Houdini (except for modeling other than procedural because of Zbrush). Just as an example if you know how to cache hair, you know how to cache fluids. geo, particles, anything you can cache works just the same. I will stop here cause Houdini is for me nothing less than the Holy Grail of CG!

About Clarisse I didn't really know what it was just checked it looks pretty amazing.

C4D and modo have no appeal to me and their development isn't exactly exciting. Houdini is really just a TD and FX package, looks too complicated for me.

i'd maybe consider a combo of using blender to model and Clarisse for layout/lighting/rendering
