It's much better now. I cleaned out my registry (sys mechanic) and updated my BIOS. The only thing that has changed system-wise since last BIOS update (2 months ago) was the addition of an extra gig of RAM. Perhaps it was a BIOS setting that didn't get changed with the new RAM and the settings (timings?) got flushed. It's the only thing I could think of.

        Thats much better!!
I was gonna say check your bios, usually when the computer is running mega slow its cause something has gone funky in the bios.

Good to see you got it worked out.

          Asus p4p800-deluxe
          Intel p4 ht 3.2
          DDR400 1GB
          Windows XP SP2

          rendertime 14min 17sec

i was going to buy an expensive dual machine but after seeing the results here i think its better to get some single cpu render slaves for the money.

why is the speed increase of the dual machines to the single cpus only 40 percent???

9m 37s when I turn off all those extra programs

7min 5s by getting 2 of my slaves up and running. I dont have time to get the whole (or at least the stable part) of the farm running right now. But when I do I'll run this again to see.

I'm still on 1218 - the public beta release since I dont have access to the dev-only builds.

Everything is working fine for me now - I had issues to begin with. There was a bug in the previous version of the NVidia drivers that made anything that used the Win Media Player for video crash, as well as several of the Quicktime codecs - that is fixed though. And I had to get Boxx to beg Intel for a beta driver for the onboard NIC since Intel had only released the Itanium driver package for XP64. But now that stuff is resolved its working great. I had to switch antivirus packages too (no norton yet for XP64 - went with Avast instead) but its supprisingly stable and workable for a beta product.
