  • Liquid materials not rendering correctly

I Wonder, what I'm doing wrong this time. The V-Ray built in water material is rendering black in material editor and in scene rendering including network servers? Same goes to all liquid materials.

Same goes to Glass material. I'm supposed to create very quickly rendering of kind of a boat. How can Render a boat if the glass material looks like this?

Are you sure that in production rendering the glass is black? The preview in the material editor is not correct for transparent materials with fog colour but these should be fine in production and IPR.

        Thanks,

It seems to be in production renderings too.

In Material Editor Options (Compact Mode) decrease the "Render Sample Size" parameter. Let's say to 10mm

            Thanks,

That helped in material editor. I sent it back to backburner rendering queue, but I doubt it will help there being material editor option.

No, it doesn't work. It renders all black. I wonder what has changed in V-Ray.

                Just an idea,
As far as I can remember Water shader preset have a small fog value in it. It darken the water with distance. You may have a unit issue in your scene (Customize > Unit setup). Let say you think you're in centimeter but your are in meter, your water plan might be hundred of meters with instead of hundred of centimeters. This would have a result of a darker (nearly black) water instead of a nice fading blue.

I might be totally wrong, but worth a check.
                Best,
                Nicolas

Actually I'm testing now Olive oil preset. Being an engineer, I work with millimeters; the camera is 375 000 mm away. Everything fine, except the liquid being all black.

Could you try to crank up the deep of the fog value, try 100mm or even 1000mm just to see if something change.
Carfull i'm in cm not in mm.

You might also check just in case your object properties.
Be sure "Visible to reflection / refraction" is checked

Hi tested in production and some materials render black indeed.

Give me a bit more time to investigate and I will get back to you.

                          Thanks,

It looks now much better. I haven't previously used the the built in V-Ray material library liquid materials. Instead I have used Phoenix FD liquid materials without any problems. I think I used the Paint preset for this animation and tweaked the material from there. However it needed some retouching, so I started exploring the built in V-Ray material library materials. That's when the problems started to occur.

Ok it turned out I was using a broken nightly version. After installing a different version the material library works fine. If you are still having issues on your setup please try updating to the latest official version and also please share a few images/videos with the issue.
