  • vray displacement 2d vs 3d problem

I have a displacemen tmap generated from ZBrush ant I get so different results using 2d and 3d. When using 2d, I get a verry smooth result but when I use 3d I get a verry strange grid as if the mesh wasn´t tesselated enough no matter what settings. I think the grid pattern derives from the zb-mesh but how come they not occur in the 2d displacemen? What is the difference? Filtering. Is it possible to get the same effect in 3d displacement?

Have You tried using the VRayBmpFilter map before adding to the VrayDisplacement ?

No. but I think I solved it in a way. It is a very big map 8096x8096. I simply turned down the blurring of the map to lowest value- 0.01 and the grid disappeared.

Thank you. I will try out the vray filtering.

I'm seeing you also have the problem with visible UV seams in the displacement. Have you found some solution?
As a workaround I'm using higher poly-count models with normal-maps, they does not have this problem.
Pleas look here for my VRay-Zbrush disp. map problem:

it all solved as I turned down the blur in the bitmap to 0.01, or I supose you can use the vraybmpfilter, the uv cracks and the strange grid.
