  • Irradiance map for animation bug/limitation

    Hey Guys,
We are using the irradiance map for animation feature more and more but I have come up against a problem.
The irradiance map get calculated on a single computer using the "animation prepass" function. Once that has finished the frames get sent to the farm using the animation rendering function pointing at the precalculated irradiance map. Now this should produce nice rendered frames, but instead we get a lot of backbutner errors saying "could not load irradiance map"

Rendering the same frames on a single computer through backburner works without error, but once 2 computers start to render the errors come up again.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

I need some urgent help on this.

This is on max9 64bit and vray 1.5.00

Thanks for your help in advance

we get this error if the path to the file, or file name on the irr. map is wrong..(remember to have just the name of the irrmap, not the numbers of the frames added, if this make sense..) ps. we also render the prepass on the farm to.. works great

      I need to investigate further.

Chris, the animations we did for the Siggraph demos, concerning the IR map for the animation were done 100% in DR.

IR prepass and IR animations.... no problems at all... consider this option as well.

Honestly, haven't tested this in BB.

            Best regards,

              Had the same problems.

Without any investigating, I put all projectfiles (proxies, IRR/LC-maps, textures, etc) locally on all nodes in c:\resource\projectname and never had any problems since. Before staring jobs there is a script that synchronizes all nodes with the workstation with help of Beyond Compare.

How you did that? (I know the answer is complicated)

We had been trying the "animation prepass" function (Vray 1.50 final) but couldn't make to work at all on a single computer. If you guys make it to go, a help would be very appreciated.

                Procedure:

                1. Animation prepass
                2. Auto save is checked, filename is set.
                3. Global switches/don't render final render is checked (assumed)
                4. render frame by frame (every frame)

an irradiance map is computed frame by frame, if animation is 30 frames then 30 vrmaps are created: filename prefix + # sequence.

                5. Animation(rendering)
                6. Browse for vrmaps, selecting one filename becomes a prefix and chops the numerals, ei "test-std0000.vrmap" becomes "test-std.vrmap" in the slot.
                7. Global switches/don't render final render= unchecked.
                8. Render on a single computer, not good...

                Here the result:

                http://www.dreamImg.com/Vray-Forum/test2.mpg

                Any possible help?

(We followed these instructions from a thread by Vlado, here: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=19682 )

If you need more information, let me know.

I got this with Backburner too. I'm wondering if all the different computers on my renderfarm are trying to grab the same files at the same time and it's erroring out. I need to do more tests.

yeah thats what we have found, copying the irradiance maps to the individual machines work much better but its a bit of a hassle to do.

                              So what is the answer?
We can't get our animation to render now?

No animation in BB with "Animation" IRR setting? Go back to the old way?
