DR and Xref

i ve been trying to get DR to work properly for the last couple of weeks, with no luck so far...

Today, because i have some spare time atm, i m trying to figure out whats going wrong.
I work with Xref scenes on every single projects for quite some time, and its been a great improvment for my workflow so far.
DR works flawsly for simple geometry tests, but as i try it on the last project for testing the slaves don t kick in...they keep restarting themselves during rendertime. So i ve just tried to merge the Xref scenes into the master file, and DR worked in every single slave!

i m gonna try afterwards to render with Xref objets to see if it works by any chance...

note that the Xref are properlly maped with UNC paths as are all the maps...

further testings here...
if i merge those objects from other file as Xref objects, and not as Xref scene, it works!
unfortunately it doesn t no matter what if i use the Xref scene...why?
shouldn t it work as well?

We also use Xrefs for every project. Some of our projects have DR rendered fine, others fail in just the way you describe. On the ones that fail, I can merge in all the xrefs and they start working. I have not been able to narrow it down to a specific cause yet, but I can confirm that sometimes Xrefs cause DR to fail. (1.50.00 also)

we have also had some trouble with DR and xrefs this morning, all fine when merged tho.

I ve had to merge the xrefed scenes every time i have to DR...

Interestingly, I have not had this problem till I read this thread!! I am now having problems DR with BB with Xref's. Merging does fix it.

We are now having this problem and it is causing us major grief - deadline looming!
We are using Max2009 64bit and Vray 1.5 SP2. It all seemed to be going ok until about 3 or 4 hours ago. We have about 10-15 large buildings that we are xref'ing in as scenes and using DR. It fails every time now. However, if I merge the scenes in, it works fine.
Merging is not a viable option though as there are so many different files that we need as seperate max files.
Any tips?

A common error is that the XRef files are specified relative to the folder of the main scene, or relative to the user's computer (and sometimes the paths are wrong altogether, but 3ds Max finds the scenes because they are in its search paths); however when the main scene is transferred to the slaves for DR, these relative paths are no longer valid and cannot be found.

Not sure if this is your problem though...
