Saying that - I did the third Image again on it's own and it rendered AND saved?! - Am I missing something here? The computer I'm using to do the renders on has 12gig of RAM, and quad Core, plus I have another 7 Render slaves distributing on to that with no problems.

error: [VFBCore::SetRegion] Error writing render region to raw image file.

I had this message pop up once in a while either. The way I could fix it was to not set the render buckets to a specific number. Whenever I use a count of buckets and not the width/height settings I get this error writing EXR files. I hope this helps some of you.
Spent hours of trying to fix this error and after resetting the settings to default turned out working, I realized that the only setting that always causes this error is Region Count.
Edit: I experienced this issue in Maya though. Not in 3ds Max.
