  • Closing the VFB takes forever - why ?

It happened in 2.4.x and now in 3.x - In the beginning everything is great but now everytime I close the VFB - it may take between 10-30 seconds !
    Why ?

Is there a cache that can be deleted ?

    Regards

Are you using the Nitrous viewport?

    Best regards,

      Yes

Shouldn't it be working with it ?

I have also found that the VFB can get very slow after renders finish, when you go to clear the buffer and when you want to close the VFB. I hope you might be able to speed these processes up if possible. I'm also using Nitrous. 2014.

Try to disable "Improve Quality Progressively" under Display Performance of Viewport Properties.

I tried it but it does not help - Actually it took a bit longer this time

Ok; I'm working on some code that handles the VFB UI differently; it's still experimental, but it might help for such cases and hopefully will go into one of the next updates.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

Hehe, we'll see. The way this experimental stuff is now, the 3ds Max UI remains active during rendering, which, while maybe useful occasionally, may also lead to unexpected problems, f.e. if you change a material during a render or go to File > Reset...

                          Best regards,
                          Vlado

You mean that we can continue to work on the scene, tweak materials and other settings while rendering? This will be extremely beneficial!

Nonono. I mean that you can click on things that you shouldn't F.e. if you change a material, it will change how the rest of the render comes out (or crash, depending on exactly what you changed).

If you want to fire a render and continue working, simply use backburner, or make a script to fire a 3dsmaxcmd render.

                              Best regards,
                              Vlado
