  • progressive not timing out

    hi,
i`m trying to render a large 30000 pixel image with progressive and even though i set a limit of 15 mins to render it doesn`t quit. it hasn`t gone past pass 0 yet so i`m wondering if another end condition is now taking priority ?
obviously 15 mins isn`t going to be enough time to render this image but i just thought it odd it hasn`t quit yet, it`s now at 23mins but still estimating 15 mins. my pc has only 32gb and it seems like it`s using a lot more memory than that. i can see the image updating although painfully slowly, i presume it`s because it`s paging to the hd a lot.
in bucket mode there`s no problem and it`s only using 9gb of memory to render. should progressive use that much more ? it`s not a big scene at all just some curvy cylinders.

    thanks
    anthonyh

edit: figured out the memory use might be down to rendering the whole image at once ?

I think it needs to make at least one image pass before it can stop?

What on earth do you need a 30,000 pixel rendering for!?

1 pass min, that would explain it.
it`s a big poster for a show. technically they probably don`t need it that big (imo) but clients get it in their head it has to be the best quality it can be, that is before their print guys probably can`t handle it and downsize it without telling anyone. happens quite often.

I'd render out at half that (still way more than high enough res for a billboard!) and then if the client kicks off about it, upscale it in photoshop. Guarantee they won't tell the difference.

you`re probably right. if by some miracle they do tell the difference i can say it was a render error or something. hehe
          thanks
