    Why such a wonky way to fillet? Is it a MAX thing or am I doing something wrong?

    My current hardware setup:

    I'll get that sometimes on a weird point that has a weird bezier tangent(?). I'll select the vertice and 'reset tangets', then choose 'corner', and fillet again.

      You need to convert the point to a corner bezier and then make sure the length of each bezier handle is the same length. That is a work around but not great to have to do with a large structure.

        Alternativly you can refine the spline by adding a vertex at equal distances from the corner point...making sure of course that the radius is possible within those vertices.

          Are all the points on the entire spline on the same Z location?

                Check the vertices that connect to those that are acting weird, if those are bezier corners with different handle length the fillets will have different curvature. I usually select all the spline vertices and convert to corner before filleting to avoid this.
