  • RenderMask script no longer working with Vray Next?

Does anybody else use this little script called RenderMask? It seems that it doesn't work with Vray Next. It just renders black image. It worked perfectly fine with all previous versions of Vray.

Will check it out; I'm not sure if there's something that needs to be changed in the script.

The script seems to create Standard materials in order to do its job. It will need to be reworked to create VRayMtl materials instead. It would be best to contact the author about it. I could try to do something about it on the V-Ray side, but I'm not sure how successful this will be - we can't support the Standard material forever (Standard materials severely cripple the performance of V-Ray).

          Best regards,
          Vlado

I just contacted the developer. He said that he has stopped development for the moment due to other priorities. Hopefully he finds the time to check it out because it's a great little script. I use it almost on a daily basis for quick masks and it's a pity he doesn't work on it anymore. Maybe if enough people donated. I did some years ago as it has saved me lots of time and money but sadly I can't find the donate page anymore.

Use Scanline when rendering the masks? Or just use multimatte render element but this requires planning before rendering.

I am not a programmer, so I do not know the details

Is it impossible for 3ds Max API Render to convert Standard Material to V-Ray Mtl on the fly?

vray already got function render mask for object, can vray add a simple black and white render mask(black and white but keep the opacity)?
vray render mask with selected object, alpha channel can get the mask, but much slower.

Apologies for digging up this old one, but does anyone have a working solution for this? I believe the script was fixed with version 5.90, however that version is not available to download. Does anyone have any alternative methods for very quick masks like this script did so well?

Well he updated it and vray 5 appears to have broken it. He's said that he won't be able to fix it...for now.

Ugghhhh any other alternatives? This is such an important part of my workflow

                              Bumping this!

Such as useful script, there doesnt seem to be anything around that works as well as this did!
