  • SElf- Illumination for VRAY MATS

NOthing really fancy but I wish there was some way for Vraymats to have self-illumination - Just to make it a bit easier to mimic self-illumnations like those of the standard mats.

Thanks R2J2, I guess I didnt make myself clear - I was hoping there was a self-illum slot within vraymats. There are some instances where I'd need to make vraymts act like the old self-illuminated standards. And for such situations - I thought they'd come handy...

does the vray light material not do what you need?

You won't be able to use bumps, displcements, etc with it...

I'm agree with Roy, sometime we need a auto illuminate mtl, so I put up the receive GI but this is not a self illumination just GI and everytime colored GI, mtlwrapper doesn't make selfilluminated mtl really.
It's perhaps against the GI system but....
Roy, you can make it with a standard mtl and turndown the emitting GI(in the right tab Vray property) to haven't warning in the Vray message.
Perhaps we need a new mtl like this standard mtl which not generate GI by default, but with all the others parametter of the Vray mtl.
                  cheers

This isn't a total solution, but I believe I did some testing in the past in which I blended a vraymtl with a vraylightmtl.

It's not as quick or as flexible as a built-in self-illum switch in vraymtl but I seem to recall that it worked.

You can if you are going to mask the self illumination
Actually, there are times when you simply want to recreate a self-illuminated
standard mat from an old library, or found out you need to create a quick
masked self-illumination in the vraymat you've already setupped...

I vote for self illum slot, but also extra luminance slot, and diffusion slot. Not diffuse.

flipside, diffusion is a black and white image which specifies the amount of light which is being distributed across the surface, so lets say you have a metal texture in diffuse slot and its lit uniformly by default, then you put a black and white diffusion map of that same metal and brighter pixels will preserve the lighting and darker ones will not.
