  • Sticky VRayTriplanarTex

Would be way cool if VRayTriplanarTex had a "sticky" option that would let you specify the frame at which the texture was mapped, and would them cause the texture to "stick" to a deforming mesh throughout the animation. This would be similar in effect to baking the texture at a particular frame, but would avoid the need to do that.

This is very useful for imported deformed geometry (like ABC from another DCC) because the deforming objects currently "swim" through the triplanar texture, and have to be mapped in other ways.

Would be way cool if VRayNoiseTex (and the VRayPluginTex various noise nodes) also supported a "sticky" setting. Again, all of this is to allow easy mapping of deforming geometry without baking.

    Thanks.

Hi, thanks for posting. We will discuss these suggestions and get back to the thread.

Thanks for the reply, Vladimir. The more our work flow involves imported assets from other software the more useful this feature would become. We always have to think about the deforming geomtery and be sure to avoid anything that would swim. So often something like TriPlanar or procedurals would be the perfect solution, but they don't work because of the swimming.

      Thanks.

If you baked the texture at a particular frame it will get deformed in the next if your geometry is deforming.

Let's wait and see what the devs think about that. I am not sure if it is even possible.
