  • a method to speed up qmc lighting

    ive noticed while playing with the qmc lighting that what appears to kill the speed more than anything is textures.

    what would be good is either an extra button in the material overrride allowing you to put a different material in there which is used purely for the lighting calculations, (would also allow for flexible special effects...)

    alternatively, like lightscape had aeons ago, an "average texture colour" button which would simply, err, average the texture colour as far as the lighting engine is concerned.

    with irradiance maps this isnt an issue coz u can cacluate lighting beforehand, but with qmc this isnt an option, (unless we get morbid angels "load /save qmc solution" function )

    and anything to speed up qmc is a good idea imho!

        There is an Override material in the newer builds, where you may specify a whole different material for the Base, GI, Reflections, Refractions materials, on one and the same object.

          Hey nikki, could you confirm the above means there's no need for the script i was preparing(previous thread, material override)? I'd hate to waste time with 1.5 apparently around the corner...

                    it's a global material replacer with a few functions and, sorry to say, limitations.
                    It can disable glossies, either refractive or reflective; disable reflection or refraction, replace reflective, refractive or lambertian (only diffuse) materials, and it can set all the diffuse chans to black.
                    It's limited in that it only works with top level vraymaterials, and with today's update, also on 1st level M/S ones (eg: M/S Material -|
                    |- VRayMtl )

                      When is all this new stuff going to get released? We were speaking of dongles begining of Dec 05 and its nearly May 06.......oh well
