  • vrayrt fullscreen on second monitor.

ok so i know it would be slow if the monitor had a lot of pixels.. but ive been having a go at some projection mapping (there was actually a post in the general forum by bruce hart that reminded me about this)

Basically aligning a 3d model of a space, to match exactly when projected back onto the real space is quite hard to do. you can measure and model as accurately as possible, and place the projector with great care, but you always have a few misalignments.

(or in my case a complete nightmare as the other guy using the projector had set it up with keystoning and wouldnt let me change it as it would screw up his 2d stuff..) that meant the only option, besides somehow measuring the keystone value and translating that to a max camera correction, was to push and pull the model around to fit.

unfortunately theres no way (as far as i know) to get a max viewport to go fullscreen on the second monitor output. so i had to adjust the model, render, then view the render fullscreen to see if it lined up. basically gave up in the end as i only had 2 days to do it.

now if it was relatively trivial to add a fullscreen function to vray RT...... id be as happy as a pig in s**t, as i could edit the model and camera, whilst getting live feedback on the projector connected to the second out on my pc.

i figure ive got more chance of getting fullscreen RT than i have of somehow persuading autodesk to add it to the max viewports...

You are using active shade in your viewport? What's wrong with the seperate active shade window. This you can maximize like every other window.

Hm, ok will think about it. If you are using the stereo mode of V-Ray RT, it is actually quite easy to maximize the two additional windows with proper image resizing. Perhaps we need to do that for non-stereo views as well.

hm people seem to be confusing a maximised viewport and a fullscreen display. to do what i want to do i need true fullscreen, like when you watch a movie. if there is a window or border around the view it wont match the final rendered output, which will obviously be projected fullscreen. thanks for looking into it though

This is exactly what V-Ray RT gets you for the stereo views....

ah.. hahaha! so it is.. fantastico. i could probably use this as it is then, just by setting a very small eye distance or something (i didnt actually look at the stereoscopic features yet) so the left and right views match the central camera position.

however having this feature for standard vray Rt would be a cleaner way to do it

              cheers, Robin.

actually.. really thats so easy.. just set the eye distance to 0. then i can use one of the 2 stereo views fullscreen on second monitor.

obviously the only issue is the reduced performance from calculating the other eye.

Yep; it won't be too hard to implement the same thing for the normal render too...

                    Hi guys,

i am currently looking for the exact same feature in maya....is that possible already?

                    regards
                    Oli

Not yet, but it shouldn't be too hard to add "Full-screen" mode to the V-Ray VFB...

sounds very promising...maybe Ctrl-DoubleClick would be cool....since single doubleclick is already taken....
EDIT: ALSO IMPORTANT -->> can you provide a sideBySide-Stereo Output in Fullscreen-Mode?

it's really great how graphic cards get faster and VrayRT is getting better...this request is just a logic consequence on the way to real "REALTIME" rendering with RT

                        happy easter holidays vlado...

                        cheers
