    Hey Vlado,
Do you think this will ever be implemented?? It would be great to know either way
It would be very useful to all who do archviz.
    Cheers

I think I've replied +1 to this in another thread ages ago, but here I am again adding +1 for this seemingly simple fix.
Yeah, yeah, there are always work-arounds, but I agree with others, in that this should not need one.

I was sure I'd already +1d this, but here we go again - +1!

Disk, box and cylinder light would be great - as optimised as possible.

                Hello people,

We already had this feature request into our system but it hasn't been done yet since the effect could be achieved very easily in many different ways.
I have read all the workarounds so far and I could add one more to the list - VrayPlaneLight + VraySoftbox texture(hotspot ON).

I'll remind our Team Leaders about it

+1 on the circular light....the only feature I would like more is a Vray SPOT LIGHT!

IES are good, but some times you need more control like in standard Max Spot lights.

Actually yeah that's a good call Eyepiz.

If we use the plane light with a circle in the texture (which I'm sure wouldn't sample as cleanly as a written circle light) we'd still get a boxy shaped falloff region if we were using the directional attribute. Having a circle light with a cone s pretty similar to a torch or a theatre light so it'd be a pretty useful one!

Hello svetlozar. Maybe this demonstrates why workarounds mean exactly that, more work.

What kind of working around is required to get a circular plane light based on VrayPlaneLight + VraySoftbox texture(hotspot ON)??

I just tested what you posted above, and my plane light is still 100% square.

                          Thanks

with the VRaySoftbox; I think you have to pick for the base color to be black. This created a black outer color, with a circular white shape in the middle. But this black leftover of the square shape still shows up in reflections. I suppose another option would be to insert a circle texture with alpha to clip the outer areas of the circle within the square light...

Shame that in doing so you lose the functionality of adjusting the color temp, etc, which now needs to be done in the texture.
Maybe a cutout slot in the vray light would work? But is this an efficient method?

As for a VraySpotLight, couldn't you just use the Directional parameter with a plane or disc shaped VRayLight to achieve this?

Okay, so I did all of these steps to get a disc light.
                                1. added a softboxmap
                                2. enable texture on plane light
                                3. place map into texture of vray plane light.
                                4. enter softbox texture and turn on hotspot
                                5. test rendering
6-9 more tinkering in softbox and rendering
                                10. results still no good, go back into softbox texture again, change base color to black (no idea why, just wild guess.)
                                11. test render again
                                12. now I have a black rectangle with a white disc.
                                13. model the light fixture and abandon the workaround.

Would rather in 1 step have a true disc vraylight at creation. (-Beats dead horse-)
                                Thanks
