  • Add a warning in the VRay Messages window for ...

    Vlado,
Firstly: I just spent a bunch of hours trying to figure out why my scene was taking FOREVER to render (18hrs, when I knew it should be around 45m). The problem was I was using an IMAP GI solution and one material in my scene had "Use Irradiance Map" off, and it was brute forcing this material. It'd be nice if the message window checked for an irradiance map solution and warned of materials not using irradiance map. Would have saved me a ton of time . Small suggestion.

alternatively, you can run a script to mass set the materials to a certain setting as a sort of a clean up sanity check before final rendering.

Yes, definitely an option. But the current warnings from the "V-Ray Messages" are only slightly useful as well:

"Scene bounding box is too big, possible raycast errors"
"Sub-pixel mapping is turned on this may ..."

I just figured it'd be a simple addition to warn of particular other problems as well, like if a user is using an irradiance map and some materials have "Use Irradiance Map" off.

right. well it could be just me, but what if this was a desired workflow, i.e. a user specifically set some materials to be brute force, then they would get this warning and wonder why that is.

I'm all in favour of friendly warnings (for example the light cache retrace threshold one is useful). I think if a user is advanced enough to know about setting materials not to use the irradiance map then they will understand the warning.

This particular case was it was unset from a merged-in object so I was unaware that this was unchecked.

there is a feature in deadline which I really like, which runs a sanity check you could declare anything you want to that and it would warn user before submit to the farm.

We recently purchased Deadline. I'll at this in to our sanity check! Thanks Dmitry.
