Copypasting from http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/rt10...er_3dsmax.htm:
Now I have a dream regarding this. What if I'd be able to paint a custom HDR-image in photoshop that affects GI, reflections and refractions. Every time I save the image, my vray RT rendering magically updates! I've set up the RT render window next to photoshop, so I'll get instant feedback.
That would be so nice.
I haven't been able to get this work with vrayHDR or basic bitmaps in environment slots, vraydome lights or geometry with vraylightmtl. Updating is tacky and requires restarting the activeshade render or some other actions. My wish is that one of these lighting methods would work as I described.
Edit:
Turns out that I was too greedy. I wanted to use other machines for rendering the RT also, so I saved the environment map to a server. Using this method locally seems to work with just a little lag.
Using win7, 3ds max 2013 and vray RT 2.30.02.
Auto update bitmaps - if this option is enabled, V-Ray RT will try to automatically update the rendered image whenever one of the bitmaps used in the scene is changed on disk.
