  • VFB able to rotate 90 degrees

Here is a simple idea I stumbled upon , while working on a new project.

It would be great if we can have a new button in the V-Ray VFB.
Button is : Rotate VFB 90°. It can be just next to the < Render icon >

    The idea is:

Sometimes, in a scene we put lots of cameras. Usually most of them share same render output resolution. Ex: 1500/1000 px.
That is < LANDSCAPE > image. But if you want 1 camera to be < PORTRAIT > image ( 1000/1500 px ) , then u have 2 options:
    1. Change the resolution from Render menu
    2. Rotate the camera inside the scene by 90° ( which is my case ) .
In this case you don't need to tweak the render resolution, and you can easily use batch render queues, etc , etc.

The non-pleasant part is - that you have to look at the VFB with you head rotated in order to see how the image would look like < Portrait >.
As a matter of fact, if you have a camera like that ( rotated ) and you just reverse the 1500 with 1000 px, the camera will have different look.
What i mean is that it will capture different part of the scene, which will fall in the VFB.

So the wish is just to be able to temporary rotate the VFB by 90°. I don't care about the render-output, how it will save or whatsoever.
It is just during the setup and testing and drafting... Then for the final it can still render Landscape... Don't care.

I will try to show what i mean with a simple image.

    Best regards,

If you where using RPManager, you would not have all those trouble.

Just change the ratio in you pass, put the cam straight and change the focal length to match rotated cam, it's just a equation away.

Using batch render you can set the resolution for individual frames.

I was expecting such answers ... it's not that i don't know how to pass the issue guys... i am very good familiar with the options.
You guys are not getting the point at all here ...

@ Macker - I don't believe you're doing Batch render, while making and testing your scene... and rendering crop-drafts, etc.... do u ?

Not generally, no. But given that you can turn off all of the scenes that you don't wish to render within the batch render dialogue - the result is that you can simply render the frame you are working on. I'm not saying it wouldn't be a useful option, what I am saying is that there is a decent "work around" available to you.

I would much rather have render rez parameters in each camera, with an option of overriding the common tab in the render dialogue.
As "simple" as your idea about rotating the VFB seems, it also seems like a quick and dirty hack and a "not-so-universal solution"......this would be a rotate function added only for this one reason you stated.

I think there should be certain "minimum" requirements for adding features, that either address serious problems/lack of features that are show stoppers, or that the solution is versatile enough to be used in several different situations.

I can't actually see any other uses for this feature at the moment. Please chime in and educate me if I'm blind.

              @ Macker...
Yes, mate, there are lots of workaround, we all know that.... the thing is sometimes i hit render 10 times, in 3 minutes, just to see a certain detail or whatever... going through batch, or something else will loose lots of time, etc.

              @ trixian
Yes, that's all an idea, which can deal with the situation...

The idea is already into our feature-list.
We will update you as soon as it is implemented.
