  • Framebuffer save option "do not overwrite existing files'

I typically render to vrimg format - just went to check on my farm and for some one of the images that I'm rendering was back at the beginning. I looked at the file saved at is was something small like 13kb so the render had been overwritten. If there was a way for vray to create a new file each time then I would have my render.

Also it seems that the vrimg format no longer saves each bucket incrementally - which was one of the features that I thought was awesome. If your render needed to be cancelled for whatever reason you'd still have the majority of the render saved. Could it be due to using the denoiser? or Lens effects which are post processed?

Generally there should be a pop-up message when you hit render or save your image from the VFB, which would ask you if you would like to override the same file. I am not sure what was the exact case but you should have been noted about the same file name.

Could you give us more details on what do you mean with "it seems that the vrimg format no longer saves each bucket incrementally"? The vrimg and the exr file formats store the data from the completed buckets during the rendering and you could further take advantage of resumable rendering.

      Hi

that's what I would normally do in order to start the rendering but my query way more related to when, for whatever reason the render fails after the last bucket has completed.(Via back burner I should mention).

RE: not incrementally saving - if I copy and paste the vrimg file before the (bucket) render has completed then it is empty. It used to save each bucket after it has finished.

Lets ts say the render buckets complete but it fails and gets stuck inside loop (for lack of a technical description) then render will overwrite the existing file when it starts again. a mechanism to prevent that on the occasion that this happens would be great.

Ultimately I guess there is a bigger issue as to why the render fails in the first place. In the last instance of this happening the second 'try' saved without issue so it's not repeatable.

This sounds to me like an option for the render manager BB in this case that automatically switch to a new file name if the current frame fails for some reason. But this is not useful for animation renderings where you have to check for different file names in the entire sequence.

Hope I'm not missing something in your workflow.
