Skylight portal - when this option is on, the Color and Multiplier parameters are ignored; instead the light will take its intensity from the environment behind it.

Simple portal - this option is only enabled if the Skylight portal option is on. It tells the VRayLight that there is nothing of interest behind the light itself, and so the environment color can be used directly. Normally, the portal light takes its color from whatever objects are behind it. In order to do this, the light traces additional rays, which may slow down the rendering. Turning this option on makes the rendering of portal lights faster.
So: in Simple mode just the environment is taken into account; in normal portal mode - object behind the portal are also taken into account.

You can do fog in post using z-depht channel.

i am using vray fog for light rays. god rays. i was reading a 3dsmax article where they said that they rendered the fog as a seperate render pass.

i forgot to writte in my post. i meant the fog thevolumetric effect. if there is any shortcut to get cleaner render?

You have to grab a plugin from here - http://cgdo.ru/vrayblender/vray_TexVoxelData/ and put it into the path from README.md from here - https://github.com/bdancer/vray_TexVoxelData
