  • V-Ray output system vs image sequence

    Hi!

I noticed a few issue with the vray output system.
    • I've set up the output system save file location. The format is multichannel exr. (the file name is "test")
    • Under the render settings the save menu i set a save location for the regular image and turned off the mult-pass image option (along with the post-effects)

If a render locally from the vfb:
    • The regular image is not saved only the multichannel exr file. and the exr file has an added sequence numbering that represents the current frame (i.e. _0001,0002)
    • If i have the mutlipass image enabled with post effects. it is also not saved ( TBH i don't need the multipass image, this was just for the test)
    • The issue is that the output system doesn't save a regular rgb beuty image (this is really useful if i only need some small adjustments and want to save just a few multimatte elements)
If i render locally and with team rendering enabled via the render queue
    • The regular image is saved as expected. but ads a dot in front of the frame number like "test.0001.exr" and the file locations is where the VR output system file location is ( so it overrides the regular image save settings from the render elements.
    • The output systems doesn't add numbering to the exr named in the output system and constantly overwrites the same "test" file. If i add the $frame token to the vr output system it work as it should. this is something to keep in mind.
    • If i enable the multi-pass image saving and give the file a totaly diferent name the vr output system doesn't save the VR output exr file, but at least it has frame numebring. Again this is not an issue as i don't need the multi pass image because it doesn't support the denoising channels or cryptomatte re.
I couldn't figure out a way to use team rendering and have the passes generated for denoiseing with the vray denoiser tool and generate correct cryptomatte re without rendering via the render queue. Is there a way to use team render AND also have access to these passes AND i don't need the render queue for this?
I know this is probably because of maxons limitations. but if this is the case it would be great to have in the documentation

I love the option to finally use team rendering with vray because it make everything even faster!

    Hi All!

Can anyone help me with these issues? Or is this expected behavior and I'm doing something wrong with my workflow?

    - It looks like i still can't save simple beauty image when using the vray output system. This is a really annoying issue because it would be a lot easier to have the possibility to save the beauty image as a png or jpeg for review and spot issues, and errors.
    - the render queue and the output system still overwrite one images as before. Is there a solution besides the framenumber token? why is this the default setting?

      Hello akos_kiss,

      Apologies for the delayed reply.

Are you referring to only saving the RGB channel without any additional render elements? If that is the case, please note that we are currently working on similar functionality and this will be available soon.

Can you please elaborate some more on this issue? What is your setup and settings? Sharing some screenshots or a video would help me better understand the issue. Thank you.

        Hello aleksandar.kasabov
        1. Yes, I'm referring to saving the rgb channel without any additional render elements. But this is on top of saving everything else. My issue is that most of the time we use multichannel exr sequences and they are a bit heavy to review. It would great if the vray output system had a similar option to the built in c4d save system. I know the vray outputsystem is necessary to have the ability to save all the date in the res. but it would be great to be able to save the beauty rgb also. I'm happy with the c4d built in save options works also
        2. When using the C4D render queue to render a job, where I'm using the c4d save system for the beauty rgb and the vray output system for the multi-pass renderings. AND team rendering optionis turned ON. The vray output system just overwrites the mulitpass file it supposed to save out in a sequence. If there is a $frame token (current frame) in the Vray output system file naming field, then it works. But by default the vray output system overwrites the files when use with team rendering and the render queue. This is a bit of an issue. If i'm missing something please let me know!

Please note that this is expected as V-Ray output shouldn't be used with Team Render as it won't work correctly. This is a known limitation and we will make sure to mention it in our documentation. Thank you for your understanding.

              Hello akos_kiss,

As I mentioned above, we have now added this limitation as a note here and here (as a footnote). Thanks.

This is a general issue and I can't say if this will be fixed in the future. Thank you for your understanding.

                    Hello akos_kiss,

As I already mentioned here, we just released V-Ray 6 for Cienam4D, update 1 and with it we have added an option to save only the RGB Channel when denoiser or lens effects are active. More about that can be found here. You can download the latest builds from here. You can also find what's new in Update 1 by checking this forum post.
