  • VRayMtlWrapper and caustics

Hey, we are running into a problem when trying to spit out a caustics pass in conjunction with the VRayMtlWrapper: We have receive caustics checked but the caustics pass is returned black / no alpha when we check the matte surface option.
When unchecked the caustics pass is returned as expected and comps fine. Any pointers as to what we are doing wrong?
    Cheers, J

Works fine on a simple scene. Could you simplify and attach yours here? Mention your V-Ray and host platform versions as well.

Thanks for the provided scene. It seems my initial test was wrong - caustics appear only on the refractive object itself (in my test the object overlapped with the matte surface). I've logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAX-12457) for developer investigation. Not sure if there is another workaround except rendering the VRayCaustics element separately (disabling the matte).

Thanks Alexandar, the shot is not long so we will render the caustics element separately for now.
          Cheers

Any update on this, Aleksandar? It still seems to be broken in Vray 6 and Vray 5

It's not fixed yet, I'm afraid. I'll try to bump its priority.
