    I had the same issue. Even I replace the preview scene by bazuka's scene (guided by Oliver's video tutorial 3) and make sure the output image is 256 x 256, but still the output thumbnail will have artifacts shown in the menu. I also tried to match the render settings between Oliver and bazuka's scene but in vain. In my test, only when I use Oliver's preview scene to go through the export process, I didn't get artifacts in the thumbnail priview.

      Hi Olivier,

      any fix for the 2011 QT issue? Would be nice to use Bazuka's materials with the script.

        Hey Lars,

        yes, i am about to fix this...this will be done shortly after christmas...maxwell support is comming as well...even if it has its own shaderlibrary...

            You could try and just use pngs as they're the native format in Maya's UI now in QT Maya. It's an easy fix Oli!

            Although I tried this and there are little black squares on some rendered images. Not sure why.

              Please test this and send me an email as soon as u encouter a bug. I hope i can post this on cgtalk too as soon as it is stable. So maybe u could test MR or maxwell aswell.

              [CHANGE] VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Since Maya 2011 has display problems with the 
              thumbnails i needed to change the preview format to PNG. I am very sorry for the 
              hassle that is caused by autodesk, but u need to convert all *.ma.jpg and *.mb.jpg in
              your library to *.ma.png or *.mb.png respectivly
              This can be easily done by using XnView's batch conversion tool.
              If you still see artifacts in some thumbs you need to "refresh preview" by right-
              clicking on the image.

                  Hi Oli,

                  I downloaded the new version but I there appears to be something wrong.

                  When I open the library I no longer see any of the preview images of the shaders. Also I only get the Import button and no Refresh Prieview button etc.

                  See attacment.

                  I am using 2011 Advantage Pack.

                  The preview shader library version was working fine. Not sure what issue is??

                          this is impossible...have u tried "right-click" -> "refresh preview" and see what happens? I suppose your conversion got messed up....
                          BTW: jpg is not supported anymore at all

                            Hey Oli,

                            Only just had time to jump back and look at this problem but I am still having issues. The conversion did not get messed up. The converted png files open fine in any image editing app.

                            I have an issue at the moment with vray not rendering via batch in maya so that is preventing me from doing the "refresh preview" as well.

                            Will get back to you once I get the render thing sorted.

                              Hey again,

                              Ok so I resolved my maya batch render issue. Was dodgy preferences folder.

                              However this has not solved the blank shader thumbnails.

                              Another problem is when rendering the "refresh preview"

                              It appears it is trying to load and render a preview file that does not exist.

                              In your new version of the library the shader preview scenes have all got maya version numbers on the end.

                              The refresh preview script seems to be just using renderShaderPreview_vray_.ma Looks like it is trying to get the version number but can't.

                              Could all the problems I am having with the library be that I am using Maya 2011 Subscription Advantage pack? The folder names are very different to previous maya installs.

                                It's definitely the SAP... EDIT:seems not to be the case....damn it! I am looking deeper into it...
                                Can you(or anyone with SAP) enter the following inside the MEL command line and post the result here:
